Karlijn de Lange is a visual artist based in Rotterdam. Her practice explores how memory interacts with a bird’s-eye view of the landscapes where those memories were formed. Working across drawing, oil painting, and ceramics, she revisits personal geographies. She investigates the fleeting nature of recollection by approaching it as fluid and even fictional. This fictional approach allows her to treat memories not as fixed but as something changeable which gaining new meaning through the act of making. Many of her recollections are rooted in the desert regions of the United States — vast terrains she returns to through satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and family archives.

In 2020 she obtained her Bachelor degree in Fine Arts and Design Teacher Training at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. During this, she spent a semester on exchange to Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles in the Painting Department. She spent the following three years teaching Art in High Schools in the Netherlands. Recently Karlijn obtained her MFA at Sint Lucas in Antwerp.
